Fabric Wardrobes - Affordable, Flexible Storage

They're also handy as temporary storage whilst you're sorting out your actual bedroom furniture. Maybe you're waiting for a decent wardrobe to be delivered, or you're mid-renovation and need somewhere to keep clothes dust-free. A fabric wardrobe fills that gap without being a major purchase.

Some people use them in spare rooms or box rooms where space is tight and you can't justify the expense of fitted wardrobes. They take up less visual space than bulky wooden furniture, and if guests need the room for something else temporarily, you can collapse the whole thing down.

What You're Actually Getting

Let's be realistic about what fabric wardrobes are. The frame will be either thin metal poles or lightweight wood. The fabric cover keeps dust off your clothes but it's not going to protect against damp or provide any security. Zips can be a bit fiddly, and the doors don't always sit perfectly flush.

Our range of fabric wardrobes are fine for everyday clothes storage but they are not designed for heavy use.

If you're constantly in and out grabbing things, a proper wardrobe with solid doors makes more sense. Fabric versions are best when you need basic, affordable storage and you're not expecting it to last forever.

Fabric Wardrobes

  • How long do fabric wardrobes typically last?

With careful use, a couple of years is realistic. The fabric itself usually holds up reasonably well, but zips can break and frame joints may loosen over time. They're designed as temporary or budget storage rather than long-term furniture.

  • Are fabric wardrobes easy to assemble?

Very easy. You're basically slotting poles together to form a frame, then draping the fabric cover over it and zipping it closed. Most people manage it in 15-30 minutes without any special tools. Taking them apart is just as straightforward.

  • Can fabric wardrobes hold heavy winter coats?

Yes, but don't overload them. A few heavy coats are fine, but the hanging rail and frame aren't as robust as solid wardrobes. Distribute weight evenly and avoid cramming too much on one side, which can make the frame lean or bend.

  • Do fabric wardrobes protect clothes from dust?

They keep most dust out when zipped closed, which is their main purpose. However, the fabric isn't airtight, so some dust will eventually get in. They're much better than open rails but not as protective as enclosed wooden wardrobes with proper doors.

  • Are fabric wardrobes suitable for damp rooms?

Not really. The fabric can develop mildew in damp conditions, and moisture will affect your clothes regardless of the wardrobe type. If your room has dampness issues, sort that out first before storing clothes anywhere, fabric wardrobe or otherwise.

  • Can you wash the fabric cover if it gets dirty?

Some covers are removable and can be hand-washed or spot-cleaned, but check your specific model's instructions. Most aren't machine washable. Generally, you can wipe them down with a damp cloth to remove surface dirt or dust.

  • How much weight can fabric wardrobe shelves hold?

Not a huge amount – maybe 5-10kg per shelf depending on the model. They're fine for folded jumpers, t-shirts, or shoes, but don't pile heavy items on them. The shelves are usually just fabric or thin board resting on the frame.

  • Do you offer free delivery on fabric wardrobes?

Yes, we provide free UK mainland delivery. Fabric wardrobes arrive within 3-5 working days and come in compact, flat packaging that's easy to handle. The lightweight nature means you won't struggle getting them upstairs or into your room.
